A Lily a Day

This is a Day Lily - unfortunately not photographed in my garden. They are so-called because as each day ends the old flower dies and a new one appears the next day.

Now and then a full frontal picture of a flower seems to suit it. I don't often post photos like this. I tried cropping it many other ways, but in the end I decided this was the best. I was really happy with the textures.

Daylily blooms have a wide array of different forms . These include:
Circular / Triangular / Star / Informal / Ruffled / Flat / Recurved / Trumpet / Spider / Double.

Basic Flower Colour:
The outer portion of the daylily flower is considered to be the basic colour of the flower. The colours range from:
Yellow / Red / Pink / Purple / Melon / Cream Pink

Yellow these show all shades from the palest lemon, through bright yellow and gold, to orange.

Throat Colour
The centre area of the daylily flower is called the throat. In most daylilies, the throat colour differs from the rest of the flower. Usually it is a shade of green, yellow, gold, orange, apricot, or melon. Look closely and you will that this throat colour is a very pale shade of light green.

Stamen Colour
Like the throat, the stamens may be a different colour from the basic flower colour and the throat colour. Or, the stamens may be of matching colour. Usually they are light yellow to greenish. The anthers at the tips of the stamens are often darker in colour sometimes black.

This is just wonderful Janice. I am impressed there is no over exposure here at all. I have tried these and always seem to get area’s with over exposure. Perfect composition, detail and framing. A really great presentation. Congratulations.

A very courageous tight square crop that really works well. Janice -- I think this is just grand -- thanks for showing me that the old 2:3 ratio is not the only way to go-
