[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Omeru Falls are situated in the Omeru reserve which is situated 8km north of Kaukapakapa. Omeru Scenic Reserve was gifted in 1971 by the late Sir Basil Orr. The reserve is named after the pa site ‘Omeru’. The reserve has two streams with several waterfalls of different sizes. There is a Maori Pa site and a camping area. The waterfalls are a little tricky to get too, the tracks to them are quite steep and slippery especially after all the recent rain, I managed ok as I had tramping boots on and used the tripod as a walking stick.

This photo was taken using a ND400 filter. The use of this filter allows you to use very long exposures with out getting large amounts of over exposure. A tripod is a must.

Hi Ralph,
What a beauty!! The ND400 filter certainly looks like it was worth the money! :). Such a great mood this photo has, I love darkish backgrounds for waterfall shots like this. Adds to the 'dreamy' effect from the blurring of the water. What shutter speed did you use for this? I'm dying to know. Impressive work my friend.

Excellent capture of this waterfall. You used the perfect shutter time to create the veil effect. Also like the golden tones on top of the fall. Great posting my friend!

Depending on which screen your looking at this on Ralph, on my big computer it looks rather dark... still darkish on here, (my laptop), could do with a tad lighting on the bushes. otherwise nice shot...nice flow on the water.

Hi Ralph,

I think that ND400 is an overkill for this (thus this came out too underexposed), considering the cascade is mostly under shade. Sometimes I find even just the CPL would be enough to get the shutter speed I want. Best way to get even lighting and avoid OE: photograph the falls in overcast weather :)
