I took this from an old car grave out by the Auckland Airport, I had no idea of its existence until I saw a photo from Jack (jackal) on here. He kindly told me where it was located, so I decided to check it out when the weather was quite dreary and overcast.

Not too sure if I was even allowed to be on the property, but the gate had no padlock or anything so the owners obviously can’t mind too much :). At a guess, I’d say there are at least 40 pre-loved antiques just sitting there rusting. I saw more cars in the small paddock over the fence, so ended up jumping the rather dodgy and very wobbly fence and saw it sitting to the right hand side, next to an old house that looked like it was about to collapse.

The second paddock also contained old tractors and work trucks, and was the home to a couple of cows. I think this may be an old Chevrolet Ute (pick-up), although I couldn’t find a single badge/symbol on the entire car – the number plate search came back blank too as it would have been deregistered years ago.

The council have recently built a new ‘Park & Ride’ service across the road from this ‘grave’ and there were quite a few workers around on this day, but I discreetly made my way through the gate without anyone noticing.

If you’d like to check this place out for yourself, it is on Verissimo Drive which is off George Bolt Memorial Drive. I took quite a few shots while I was there, but this is one of my favourites as the paint was quite eye-catching and seems to have withstood the weather a lot better than some of the other cars sitting there.

3x exposures using AEB (1/80, 1/320, 1/20), merged together into an HDR using Photomatix Pro.

Thanks for viewing.

Lucio

Your HDR is definitely getting better Scott. This is a nice subject for it and the colour of the old truck stands out very well! F11 has given a good deep DOF and good sharpness...

Good effort.

David

Hi Scott,

Interesting shot of the old clunker. Classic POV for this type of shot and good application of HDR. This looks like something you'd find on an old farm here in the US.

Have a great weekend!

Best,
Werner

Hello Scott,

Cars aren't just a 'man thing' as I enjoy seeing them, especially old cars. Though long neglected, this car has not lost its pride and is looking defiently at the world.
You have a great angle on it giving it good perspective. Well saturated, great textural details and good composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello!

Splendid colours and light. Perfect sharpness and details.
Greetings

Hi Scott,
Well observed and captured. Like the sharpness of this picture, the rusty areas are well shown. Perfect contrast and colours too. It all looks very natural sepite the polution of the wrecked car. Great job!

hi Scott,
this is quite like one scene in "Cars" of Pixar animation movie. it reminds me of "Mater", hahaha.
all old broken objects always tell their stories, but our feelings and imaginations cannot think those enough...
then rusty colors look like husky voice of old blues song.
and still shining some parts are surely dreaming distant sunny days he run on the road.
thank you for your nostalgic shot,
Akihisa

Hi
Very rusty.Nice, very nice photo.Good angle and what a title

zorans

I think this might be a Standard Vaguard Spacemaster converted into a ute. Just going on the centre windscreen pillar and the lines of the bonnet, could be wrong.

Nice HDR

Hello Scott, I can understand why you were drawn to this particular vehicle,it offers so much in the way of colours and textures.
I like the composition with the pick-up from this angle. And the additional textures of the grass and trees.
The HDR works really well for this shot.
Tfs, regards Jean.
