I decided to go and watch the sunrise again this morning from my favourite spot, and I am really glad I did as it looked amazing. I took this about 20-minutes before the sun rose, the red skies seemed to disappear a short time after this, followed by the arrival of the sun at about 7:40am.

It’s not often that I see bright red skies in the morning so it was quite a unique sunrise to watch, it’s going to be raining this afternoon so the skies are letting us know. Like the old saying goes – “Red sky in the morning, shepherds warning”.

Once again, I was the only one there. A car did pull up while I was taking a photo, but promptly left without taking the time to watch the sunrise. A real bonus is that the tide was in, was almost at the full-tide mark.

I opted for the vertical crop with this one as I quite liked the look after experimenting with my 'Crack Of Dawn’ photo, and it also allowed me to get rid of some of the noise amongst the trees.

As stated in previous photos from this spot, the small bush in the photo is known as a mangrove. They grow to about the size of a small tree. They protect the coast from erosion, surge storms (such as hurricanes), and tsunamis. Their massive root system is efficient at breaking up wave energy. They grow in many parts of the world and are often found in estuaries and along shorelines. The poles are from an old wharf that was once situated there.

It was quite warm for this time of the morning, and the wind was very calm, although strong enough to create a slight rippling effect on the water. The polarizing filter came in handy to accentuate the reflections on the water, and the HDR process really helped to bring out the colours and define the clouds.

Created with 3-shots using AEB, merged in PhotoMatix Pro and touched up in PhotoFiltre.

Hi Scott,
Nice scene, the HDR works very well here.
Full marks for getting up so early this time of year.
I would like to see this scene taken again, but from a much lower position. It would project the two poles up through the horizon, and tie the shot together. At the moment it could be two distinct images.
Cheers,
Pete.

the colors, the stunning pink tones on the ripples

the poles in the FG and its shadows on the water,
the dark silhouette...

Hi Scott,

An absolutely gorgeous sunrise, with such pretty colors. The positioning of the horizon at the middle makes it a centric composition, and I wonder how the image would look using Pete's recommendation above or following the rules of third. The polarizer certainly smoothen the water, the silhouette is well defined, and the mangrove and poles are handsome f/g anchors. Best regards.

Danilo

hi Scott,
a darkness before the sunrise is well expressed,
it is quiet and anticipating our deep minds.
of course orange/violet colors and silhouettes are beautiful, but the most nice point of this picture is the reflecting contrast between floating cloud and rippled water. that is metaphor of our feelings and ambience of souls and spirits.
reflecting shining and swinging air suggest lots.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hi Scott,
A great image, superb pink colours and a fine composition. Must say the foreground looks a bit noisy though, not really distractive it's just an observation. Anyway it are the striking colours which make this view very attractive. Fine job my friend.
