Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

Passchendaele - 'the Belgians have not forgotten'

A service was held in Auckland yesterday at Devonport to remember the more than 5000 NZ troops killed at Passchendaele in the Great War.
The display is a silent reminder from the Belgian people that they have not forgotten New Zealand's major contribution to their freedom.

The crosses are standing on the original parade ground where some of these soldiers once trained.

Great tribute Jack. We must not forget what they sacrificed. Freedom isn't free, is it?

Hi Jack..nice shot..very powerful with nice tones...original and effective.

Roger

I saw this on TV last night Jack and thought it would make a great subject, glad you managed to photograph it.

The low POV works extremely well and long exposure has added to the moody sky which also fits into the theme of the photo.

You feel the mood of the shot, Love the red poppies highlighted and making their statement, well Done Regards Val

Thanks for this Jack.. Always gives me goosebumps to see this kind of reminder of what these brave people went through!!!
I'm reading a book that is just recollections of the trenches and Gallipoli by the guys and girls that went through the 'mill' - very interesting..

As to the shot - i think the low POV and gloomy sky sums it all up pretty well heh?

Correction, They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Hi Jack,
Nice mood to this shot! Very empowering cloud coverage, I like the low POV you've opted for. I saw a similar display to this at the Hamilton Gardens a little while ago. The exposure and DOF both look excellent - Good idea.

TFS,
Scott.
