More conventional?

You decide.

A mix of light temperatures - halogen, incandescent, fluorescent - thrown together at odd angles just to see what happens.

Personally I quite like this one ... but then my favourite-of-all is Shane V and that drew quite a cautious response, so who knows.

Last of the Shane shots for now.

Boy ... I have to say I love that little 50mm lens. It's cheap-as and any pro photographer would probably laugh at me for using it (it wouldn't be the first time I've been laughed at for working with a little camera) but I love what it does!

Hi Rew, Another fine portrait into your gallery. It has a very wistful feel about it with good pose and skin tones. TFS. Murray.

Bardzo ladne swiatlo. Jedynie troche przeszkadza odbicie swiatla w oczach.
Pozdrawiam Witek

Hi Rew.
Very natural portrait and well presented. I like dark background here to play with her eyes. Good looking reflection in her eyes as well.
Compliments.

Hi Teacher,
Wonderful concentration on the eyes and lips, excelent pose and perfect light arrangement but crop it a bit from the bottom then it will give a more prominancy to the face.

Keep commenting on my work.

Good Luck

Sarwar

Once again I like your lighting very much. A very good expression! Well done!! Hope you're having a great weekend!

It's an interesting, bold and stubborn pose that I like. There are two things that I really love about this image: One is the skin texture, and the other is the emphasis of the facial structure using light and shade. "Throwing together" light sources is an interesting experiment, but the skin tones are definitely a bit off as a result: the neck is clearly greenish. Do you try to calibrate using a gray card, or is there no point to even trying, because different areas have a different mix of intensities from different light sources? I think I would have converted it to black and white. As for the catch lights, I liked them at first, they are certainly original, but then, hmmm, the one on the right sure looks a bit strange... The result is great, and would be in my opinion even better in black and white. Let me ask you something else: When shooting in studio against a neutral background, professional photographers seem to often use f/8 or f/11 in order to obtain maximum sharpness. You don't seem to be requiring a shallow depth of field here, so why did you take it at f/2?

Those lights show lots of different colours on Shane's skin Rew. Too many, I think. They look like shadows or marks. The neck is green, her chest is a normal skin tone but her arm is white.
I like her pose though - she looks stubborn / resolute / serious. Her dark eyes shine out, especially with the light reflecting in them.
Janice

Sharp details... Very nice!

Jeruel

Hi Rew,
This is a good portrait shot of Shane, but I prefer Shane V mainly because of the natural effect of the lighting used which in turn gave a more realistic skin tone color. Also, I find Shane V to have more visual impact that this one. But this is also a good capture. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

I kinda like what Roly said in the comments. Its the pose that shows a little stubborness :D Very nice lighting Rew

Hi, Rew...
I have to agree with Janice on this one. The pose and details are excellent, but the colors of the lighting are... odd. Her skin tones are a bit too cool for my tastes. Now Shane V?? I can see why that's your favorite and I much prefer the warmth in the color of that shot. The lighting in this is really great, just... lacking warmth, I think. You still do a fine portrait! Many thanks and kindest wishes,
Shelly

Hello Rew. The 50mm optics worked well in this portrait of Shane and the fast lens is no doubt easier to work with. The shallow depth of f/2 captured the subject beautifully muting all possible distractions. The white tank top here is rather sensuous with good sharpness of the watery eyes. Well done again and best regards. Jusni

p/s: Thanks for your honest words on my pigeons post and I've withdrawn the image because I seemed to agree with your point of view. The point rewarded is very well appreciated.

Hi Rew,

Last Saturday I practice model shooting with help of Haldian, and learn many new things . .
I like the skin tone below her face, which is natural and detail skin texture . .
As well as on her right chin . .
Are you using thin vertical softbox? I like this kind of lighting, it gives highlight . .
The rest, I am still learning . .

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Many thanks for your kind words on Flow .

Hello Rew.
Beautiful looking portrait photo.
Perfect lighted, but Shane sure, knows how to pose.
Congratulations to you both.

Other than an excellent portrait style and image, the skin and shadows and features are just done to perfection, the mix of different light temperatures here really bring out a warm, and given all the stuff going on, a surprisingly natural glow to the skin specifically and the image generally.
I like this one too. ;0)
Nice work,
TFS,
Wilt

any pro photographer who really knows the true worth of a fast lens such as your 50 1,8, would never laugh at you for how small your camera and lens are...

interestingly, large format cameras use very small lenses in front of them... and we all know just what large format photography is. how demanding and difficult it actually is... yet, it utilizes small lenses :)

i personaly like these lenses for they are lightweight yet heavyweight when it comes to performance :)

just so you know, i have a Nikon 50 f/1,2 lens :)

keep experimenting rew :) good work :) her expression could be better though, in my opinion.. but technically, this is very good :)

have a great day :)

Hi rew
Marvelous Lighting
A very authentic pose and emotions on ur model.
great

smiley soon

I wouldn't call it quite conventional... I like the tension of the neck line and the semi-profile...the eyebrow slightly raised...she reminds me of the models I had in the drawing classes...
Good and balanced mixed use of light, it blends well with her skin.
Best regards,
Diana

hi Rew

Another bold experiment and I still appreciate your preference of natural faces compared to make-up. The rear looks dark from ear onwards. Keep sharing!

Hi, Rew!

Excellent composition with charming model. Superb!

110% natural posing Rew.
The 10% you succeed is nearly always perfectionism.
