This old brick chimney is one of several built to ventilate the tunnels of a coal mine just outside the West Coast town of Blackball.
Blackball was the centre of a busy mining community in the early 1900s and some residents still work in the local mines at Roa and further afield.

I like the character of these bricks and chimney. Quaint subject, they look fragile perched precariously on this slope.
