Sky Tower
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sky Tower is an observation- and telecommunications tower located on the corner of Victoria and Federal Streets in the Auckland CBD, Auckland City, New Zealand.

It is 328 metres (1,076 ft) tall, as measured from ground level to the top of the mast making it the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, and the 12th tallest member of the World Federation of Great Towers.

Due to its shape and height, especially when compared to the next tallest buildings, it has become an iconic Auckland structure, often used in logos and promotions.

This is the view at 192 Metres, taken from the Observatory Restaurant. We are looking east over the Container Port in the Waitemata harbour.

In the centre you can see Devonport on the North Shore, with the 2 volcanic hills - Mt Victoria and North Head.

Rangitoto Island is the dark grey island with the pointed volcanic cones.

Behind Rangi is Motutapu Island and in the very far distance you can just see Coromandel.

And to the left, just over the side of Rangitoto you can see some very small islands – they are The Noises.

The tinted glass at the Sky Tower does cause a few problems with photos. And it was a very dull grey day too – definitely not the best day to take photos.

Hi Janice

A superb overview of the shallow triangular volcanic cone of Rangitoto. Good sharpness & graphism. Tfs!

Superb PoV! I just love the whole series from the tower, but I am happier at seeing it on the screen than I would be in person!
Great details

A great view!! Really nice depth and superb detail!! Have a great week!

I like ten colour of the skies Janice. Good colour in the image regardless of the day and fine detail. We have a Devonport here too which is where the ferries to and from Victoria dock and depart. TFS,
David

Feel like on a low flight Cessna, Janice.
Wonderful view. Clear enough even through the glass. Very good note too.
Best wishes,
Bima

hi Janice

Like KL Tower or KLCC, this tower view is providing a good perspective look-out of the city of Auckland, except this is over the sea and dock. I was told Auckland is the size Perth but it really has its own unique attractions. I think a height of 192m has a good view at night too.

tfs, bill
