Goosey Goosey Gander

Sweety / Puffy
and I met up on Thursday at Western Springs with our cameras – plus 3 lively young boys who had their cameras with them too. We had a pleasant time together, and those young boys, aged around 8-9 years old, took some very good photos too.

There is a lake at Western Springs and the main bird there, apart from the seagulls, were the Geese.
The black swan came here from Australia, while the white feral geese Anser anser are derived from domestic flocks that escaped into the wild.

Geese have been domesticated for centuries, and that is why photos of Geese are not permitted on TrekNature – Canadian Geese can.

True geese are medium to large birds, always associated to a greater or lesser extent with water.

Geese usually mate for life, though a small number will "divorce" and re-mate. They tend to lay a smaller number of eggs than ducks but both parents protect the nest and young, which usually results in a higher survival rate for the young geese.

Last spring I saw a pair of geese with 19 babies swimming on the lake at Western Springs.

Hi Janice!
Just seen as a thumbnail, just felt in love with this shot!
It looks like a people portrait, the crop works amazingly and the position of the goose enhances the result.
Beautiful orange beak on the grey tones of bird and water.

Ciao, Antonella

Hi Janice,

Different perspective of showing partly of the goose, but it's lovely composed with the yellow stands out from white BG . .
Interesting to see blurry milky BG, which I thought was due to slow speed . .
Great shot my dear friend

Tfs,
TJutjut

What a nice quality of photography again, my congrats for this quality of photography.

Iso.

An excellent close up Janice, good colour and nice detail in the head and neck. Even the white of the body has been well handled and shows little or no OE.

Good evening dear Janice.
See, I missed this one, days fly.
Lovely looking and very well taken close up picture of this clean and proper Geese.
Best regards from Jan

Hi Janice,

A beauty you have here. The colourtone is great and perfect sharpness. The water as background looks very good. Nice POV and composition.
Well done!

TFS Greetings Simone

Hello Janioe,
imissed this cutie when you posted it first. I am really surprised and amazed how great you managed to capture the white feathers here. Suoer details and textures. If the whites are cool , the ornage beak is even better.

Tight composition is perfect too for a close-up view. Well done !
Robert
