[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At 59minutes 55seconds Radio NZ broadcasts a time signal, it consists of
six pips one second apart, the sixth pip being the exact start of the next hour.

The best timebase to use is the shortwave radio time signal station WWVH (Hawaii). This station continuously broadcasts one second time pips, and thousands of people worldwide use these accurate time signals to make observations in all branches of science.
WWVH broadcasts on frequencies of 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0 MHz with time pips every second. WWVH provides voice announcements of the time before every minute beat, starting at the 45 second mark, while the 59th second beat is omitted and the minute tone is at a higher frequency than the other beats.

Marilyn was cutting a New Zealand Rose apple in half and asked me if I wanted some.
After all the marmite sandwiches lately, of course I said yes.
The 'seed' was sown for this entry in Helen's theme.

PP work;
The radio was photographed at our local Dick Smith Electronics store.
I wanted a radio with an old fashioned dial
A photo of our cabinet was next, followed by a macro of a pip.
I cut the radio from its background, and placed over the cabinet.
Drew the shadow behind the radio, filled with the bucket with 10% black.
Flattened the image, and using the clone tool at 10% put the reflections on
in front of the radio.
A duplicate layer was made, desaturated, and a wedge removed, emerging
from the centre of the speaker.
The pip was separated from its background and placed over the top layer.
It was sized, fitted into the wedge, copied, reduced in size and placed in line with the first. This was done four more times.
The desaturated layer was then deleted, leaving the pips over the background layer.
The pips shadows were drawn on and filled with the bucket tool, and the image flattened, cropped and sized for posting..

I do look forward to seeing what you have cooked up for us each week Pete.
Dick Smith didn't mind you taking a photo of the radio?
Very clever and intricate PP work - it sounds too hard for me - I wish you lived closer - you could give me some PP lessons.
Whenever I hear the Pip / Pip / Pip / Pip / Pip / Pip on every hour I am going to think of you.
Well done
Janice

Truly brilliant idea! I have heard that time signal many times in my life (on CBC). I think I'd have made the visual cue a little harsher, but I love YOUR interpretation here. Very fine capture, outstanding PP work -- this is one that you should take to a marketing agency -- an excellent sample of original thought

Hello Peter,

A really funny interpretation of the theme.
My only concern is, what will those pips grow in to!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Peter

Well my friend yet again I couldnt wait for your posting and I was not dissapointed. A superb interpretation of the theme. Wonderful play on words and inspirational PP work. Very good descriptive notes too.

TFS and for joining in the theme

kind regards Helen

Warped indeed Pete :). An excellent bit of artwork to accompany your notes and a rather unusual idea of time. Lovely colour and light on your furniture and the adding of the pips precisely achieved.
Dave

Wow! Your post processing work is to be admired. It all flows together so nicely. Great job.

Hello, Peter!

Fabulous!

Here in Old Blighty we don't seem to get the pips nowadays quite as we used to when we all tuned in to the Home Service on our crystal sets, so it's only ageing decrepits like me who can remember them.

As usual, well thought out and beautifully executed - fantastic sharpness, colours and clarity and meticulous processing work. And a very interesting and informative note to go with it - it's nice to know that someone so accomplished is prepared to share his secrets with us.

Thank you for this one!

Best Wishes,

John.

Hello Peter
Being around during the war years, this takes me back in time, before this radio was made, when we would listen to the BBC at 7 p.m. sharp and get this beep beep beep before it started.
Impeccable post processing, and the whole composition is extremely well done.
Dot
