Sunrise over the Salar de Uyuni. Freezing cold, but surreal and stunningly beautiful it was. No matter how hard you try, a sunrise over the salar can not be captured on photo in its full glory. It is all about the atmosphere, the cold wind, the silence,… everything. One thing has to be said though; lighting conditions on the Salar are never better than in the morning (that’s my opinion).
In the rainy season, The salt flat floods with a few centimeters of water. It is difficult then (with the reflections) to separate sky from salt and you have the feeling of floating in mid air. During the dry season, the whiteness can be enjoyed the most. There are admirers for both seasons. I only saw the Salar during the dry season, so I can not compare, but I’m an admirer nonetheless. |
