Commemorative Stamp



Historians say that before the arrival of Europeans to America there were approximately 100 million Indians in the continent. Only in the Brazilian territory, that number reached 5 million native speakers, approximately. These Brazilian Indians were divided into tribes, according to the trunk which belonged to the language: Tupi-Guarani (the coastal region), or macro-Jê Tapuia (region of the Central Plateau), aruaques (Amazon) and Caribbean (Amazon).

Currently it is estimated that only 400 thousand Brazilian Indians occupied the territory, mainly in demarcated indigenous reserves and protected by the government. Are about 200 indigenous ethnic groups and 170 languages. However, many of them do not live more like before the arrival of Portuguese. The contact with the white man has caused many tribes lost their cultural identity.

Belíssima maneira de comemorar tão nobre povo, um selo perfeito, neste seu trabalho de edição.
Soberba imagem, o retrato com uma expressão belíssima.
Os indígenas que através dos tempos foram perdendo o seu espaço e a sua identidade, consequências da evolução das civilizações, infelizmente. Merecem esta bela comemoração.
Fez-me lembrar também dos indígenas da minha terra natal.
