VENDOR GIRL
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I noticed this vendor girl selling shell necklaces. I asked her in English if I can take a picture and pointed to the camera. Still very stiff, she raised her left hand and just stood there. I requested her to smile but I was not succesful so I took the picture anyway. Before I left her I asked for her name and she answered me clearly, "Clara". Clara if you have been more cooperative, I would have taken more of your pictures.

I'm sorry but I don't respect your attitude at all. You take a girls picture. You TAKE, not MAKE a picture of this girl, which incidentally does require cooperation with your subject, and give nothing back? Then you say that if she was more cooperative you'd have taken more picures. What makes you think she wanted to have her picture taken in the first place? She wanted you to buy something, perhaps to help her family to put something on the table for a day, to not go hungry. I bet that you didn't consider that to be the reason she wouldn't smile for you. You think a girl her age selling things to ignorant tourists like you, who should be playing or something children should be doing, has something to smile about? The least you could do after putting her in this akward situation, trying to get her to put on a fake smile for your silly picture, was buy something from her.
So your only purpose in taking this picture is to pet your ego with what you deem to be a 'pretty picture'. Well congratulations you gloat.
Maybe you should try treating people with some dignity and respect and maybe you'll get a smile next time.
Fantastic picture.
You daffy duck, she wanted you to buy something. You're the one who didn't cooperate. You're thick.
