This picture was taken in a place called Alter do Chão, a small village in the Amazon region.
The sand beaches are formed by thousands of years of flooding of the Tapajós River, that form lagoon-like stretches of crystal clear fresh water.
The native women use to wash clothes on the lagoon, as you can see in the picture.
The kid in the boat seems to be keeping guard, but actually he is looking for tourists who want to hire a boat ride around. These small boats are the most important means of transportation in the region.
tech: This pic was also shot with Ektachrome transparency fim (meant for E-6 process) but had it developped on C-41, for negative color film. This forces the contrast up as well as the saturation, but on an old-fashioned lab way...No PP but a little brightening on the kid´s face.
