Hi, Jack
You've posted a photo of your neice before. She's pretty and this is definitely an improvement on your past shot: it's sharp and better composed. It seems that it was taken with a single camera-mounted flash at night, probably not ideal portrait conditions. Perhaps removing her from that background, and letting the flash isolate her against the blackness, would create a more powerful shot?
