The jaboticaba, jaboticaba or jabuticabeira - Myrcia cauliflora Berg.; or Myrciaria cauliflora (Mart.) O. Berg. or Plinia trunciflora; Myrtaceae - is a fruitful tree native Brazilian of the Atlantic Forest, mainly of the rain forest and of the submatas of altitude. Had his origin in the Atlantic Forest, and met more frequency in the state of General Mines, in Brazil.

Occurs since I Kill Coarse of the South and General Mines to Rio Big of the South. It is also known by the assignment of fruita.

His small fruits, of black shell and white pulp adhered to the only seed, grow in the log and branches, giving a peculiar characteristic to the tree. Beyond they consumed in natura, of them liquor, jelly and spirit is done. It is for that a lot cultivated in domestic orchards. Blossoms twice yearly.

Ornamental, the plant is lent to the paisagismo, beyond attract to avifauna.

The tree, of to 15 m of height, has I chop clear, smooth, and simple sheets.

The jaboticaba is utilized for several ends, so much culinary, as medicinal. Between these it is mentioned to decocção of the shell, as medicine for the asthma. By his resemblance to the grape, many products, as the wine, juice, jelly, liquor and vinegar can be deeds with the jaboticaba.

To main sort of jabuticabeira is Myrciaria jaboticaba (Vell.) Berg, known as Sabará. But other species, as to Myrciaria cauliflora (DC.) Berg. or jaboticaba native of São Paulo, Assú or Ponhema, known in the State of São Paulo
