E a história continua...

Nesse mesmo ano, o povoado iniciou a transferência do morro do Forte para essas terras e atendeu à exigência da sesmeira, erguendo a essa santa uma matriz de pau-a-pique, com cobertura de palha. Por isso, o edifício se arruinou em pouco tempo e os moradores ergueram outro semelhante, mais próxima da baía onde se situou o arraial.

Cessada a ameaça dos guaianás, com sua dizimação quase total, foi possível o estabelecimento definitivo do povoado na nova área. Essa transferência também foi possível porque, com o desenvolvimento da artilharia, as povoações ganharam defesa maior para ocupar terrenos planos, ao invés de, obrigatoriamente, lugares altos.
