Perched high above a canyon over the Guaitara River, this impressive Gothic Revival building inspires great numbers of visitors every day of the year...

This masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture was built from January 1, 1916 to August 20, 1949, thanks to donations made by local churchgoers with the intention of replacing an old 19th century chapel.

The name Laja comes from the name of a type of flat sedimentary rock similar to floor tiles found in the Andes Mountains. There claims to have been an apparition of the Virgin Mary seen in one such stone.
