This photo will take you to one of Ecuador's most staggering sights : The " Laguna Quilotoa " a mirror-green lake set 400 meters deep into the crater of Quilotoa Volcano .
A heavy rainfall that lasted 30 minutes, was in preparation when i happened on this little girl while hiking along the rim for some shots . There was a house a few meters away from the edge that is where she lives , i saw her running up toward me , guess what for ? Right you will have guessed this one easily , i too , nonetheless she simply offered me her paintings discreetly , no haggling, no bartering , hardly any talking , i accepted the deal and asked her to pose for me as well , she agreed affirmatively with a nod ,i took her picture , bought one of her paintings and was soon on my way back to the village but the clouds burst open as i was within sight of the shelter , hum not in time , it poured like cats and dogs , nails were coming down on me i'd say , i was soaked up to the bones when i finally made it to the shelter !
BTW if you ever get tempted to visit the lake proper it will take you about a half-hour down to the water over twice that much to get back up , on a rough dirt path , also fit walkers can hike around the rim in four to five hours . The lake is alkaline and has no inflow or outlet .
In PP i applied some brightness to the girl as she was a bit dark , no fill flash , cropped to put her off centre ,contrast and sharpening , a thin black frame ,iso 80 , f/6.3 , 1/160s.
Thank you for peeking in,
Carol

Bonjour Carol

Lovely place and portrait...the light is heavy soft as the girl who is selling painting instead of having fun in such beautiful place. It happens in all the world. It is an incredible time when we can be a child.
A south America generousety color in all photo , in the lake, clothes and of course painting. So rich photo.
Um abraço

Hey Carol .. I love these daily life scenes, especially when they involve the local people. Even up there, they found you and wanted to sell you paintings!!
I like the light and colors here ... overcast sky, but this has really make the lovely colors stand out so well. what an amazing spot this is!! hmm, maybe an inverted take. .. vertical, with the girl a little to the left. Just a thought :) You'll have to go back again.
Hope you have a nice Thursday. What? Thursday already? The days are flying by :)

Hello Carol

Nice work and a very touching story here. Too bad the children are used to play on our sympathies. Do you still have the painting? TFS........great story And a very colorful image.

Jimmy

Hi Carol,
Although she doesn't look too happy to me, the portrait itself is great, particular also due the stunning background. Regarding the position of the girl; a bit more to the left would have created a more balanced composition in my opinion. Nonetheless a great picture!

Hola Carol:
No sabes cuánto me gusta esta foto, todo lo que expresa y la mezcla de colores y de estilos en la vestimenta de la niña.Es como si hubiera salido del volcán mismo. Me impresiona cuánto viajas!!
