In the amazing Chauchilla Cemetery, bodies from the ancient Nasca people were preserved by natural mummification in the arid climate.
Through their habit of burying their people, this Culture left to us mummies, ceramics, colorful textiles, skull and devices, practically untouched.
Chauchilla is about 30 km from Nasca city and it impresses by the quantity of mummies still available for visiting. |

Wow ... fascinating and spooky Eyal! The most unusual portrait I've seen on TL in a long time!
Congratulations and thanks for sharing

Hi,
I have been in the same spot last year. A big problem in this area are the thombraiders. The money you pay to visit this site is used to build a small house for permanent guards to stay there. They are hoping to expand that house in the future in order to show more of these graves that are now still covered under the protective layer of sand.

Interesting picture... these mummies looks impressively intact. Thanks for sharing, Annick
Very interesting photo Eyal. It's always interesting to learn about different cultures. I find it amazing how some mummy's can be preserved for so long and still be somewhat intact.
Nice detail, composition and colours.
