El condor pasa

Oh majestuoso Cóndor de los Andes,
llévame, a mi hogar, en los Andes,
Oh Cóndor.
Quiero volver a mi tierra querida y vivir
con mis hermanos Incas, que es lo que más añoro
oh Cóndor.

En el Cusco, en la plaza principal,
espérame
para que a Machu Picchu y Huayna Picchu
vayamos a pasear.

After a 3h busride we finally reached 'Cruz del Condor' at the Colca Canyon; one of the deepest canyons in the world (pros still discuss which canyon is the deepest - I leave the decision up to you) with over 3600m depth.

Nature's often got sensational sense for the right moment - so it happens here every day at +/- 09.00 am. The moment the sun climbs over the high mountains and illuminates the deep valleys and heats the air, the condor begins to climb up into the air.
Indeed, it's a fascinating view watching these huge birds sailing through the air.
I think, I had some 200 shots there with 10 good shots. This is probably one of the best.
What I really like is the high angle of the condor and the splitted background containig the blue sky as well as the Andean mountains.

Cropped parts of the original, added a warm/cold filter and a small frame. After sharpening the resize.

Excellant job!

Hi Gunnar,

this is a great image in my opinion! And what makes it great is, together with the well-catched flying condor, the BG with its colors and landscape view.

Yes, el condor passa is my first thought when I saw this photo. Strong, well captured photo

Hi Gunnar,

Its never easy to catch the Worlds Biggest bird. Your Angle is good, Details are good. Sharpness is good. In short everything looks fine to me. Background is supporting your bird a lot.

Well done and TFS.

Cheers,

magnificent picture gunnar!
thank you!

Nice capture Gunner - isn't digital fun - I doubt if you would have taken 200 shots with film. You nailed him on this one - I agree that the mountain and the sky composition is perfect.

Hi Gunnar
Great shot! Dramatic yet magestic image. I too like the steep angle of the Condor's wingspan. Wow, it's an impressive bird. You have ably captured a great image, well worth you taking countless clicks on your camera even just to obtain that ONE outstanding image. I would say this one is the ONE. Well done!
cheers, Martyn :-)

Hello Gunnar,
Great for its decisive moment and your position in this space. There is a bit oversharpening perhaps.
Good work; you must love your Nikon; I do!
Huub

Que majestouso, the image is so clear. I don't miss the long Peruvian bus rides though.

Very well done Gunnar. Excellent timing, good colour and a nice background. As Huub mentions some visible signs of oversharpening which can be seen in the white halo around the wing on the blue sky.
David
