On the road from Arequipa to Chivay in the Altiplano,
llamas, alpacas, and vicunas replace cattle, goats, and sheep, the latter three not tolerating the altitude (about 4000m). Of the six species, only the vicuna is considered "wild". Once on the road to extinction, the vicuna is making a comeback. |
