| This is a llama (Lama glapa). It can be distinguisjed from the other South American camelids by the fact that its ears resemble bananas. The alpaca and the vicuna have ears less prominent. This was the "work horse" of the Incas. It remains a work horse to this day, providing labor and wool. Its wool is not as fine as that of alpaca, and certainly far from that of vicuna. Nevertheless, a poncho made of llama wool will get you through several winters! |

Hi Michael,
I dont know what it is about these animals that I like but I think they are so lovely and I have never really noticed there ears until you said. This is a great shot, he/she looks so majestic.
