[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Since Machu Picchu was selected as one of the 7 new wonders of the world, the place has become somewhat
"overly frequented." The only way to avoid the tourists is to spend the night in Agua Calientes and catch the 06h30 bus to the ruins 20 minutes away. At 07h00 the only tourists in sight were my daughter and I. For nearly 2 hours we climbed every nook and cranny without bumping into anybody. At 09h00, the trains start arriving from Ollantaytambo, and the buses, packed like sardine cans, start rolling en masse! By 09h30 Macchu Picchu is wall-to-wall with gapping, oohing and aahing tourists from all over the world.

Just wanted to let you know it was worth getting up so early. What a beautiful shot! I love the bird on the left, too, I think it adds reality. (This could be a post card!)Is the haze in the background natural or did you add it?

This is a breathtaking place, well worth the early hour! Some friends of mine went there this year and told me how these magnificent sights just brought overwhelmed tears to their eyes. Your composition does a good job giving a sense of depth and distance that must be even more spectacular in person. The history here is just as incredible. This shot is a real treat!

hello Michael

I am quite envious :-) you are so lucky to have been there to take the shot.. its on my one day to do list.. in the mean time your image is really beautiful taken at a nice angle and good sharpe detail

TFS regards Helen

I can understand the situation, as the road is not exactly a highway, but a high and curvy and bumpy road, up, up or down, down.
I want to see this place again, thanks for the advice to stay over night in Aguas Calientes. That means you can se the sunrise , maybe, from up here?
I heard something about the discovery of another "Machu Picchu" in the neighbourhood, do you know anything about this?
