The town of Pisaq is 32 km from Cusco. Its Sunday market is a "must-see"! Hundreds of vendors selling everything from ponchos to pumpkins. Everything is negotiable...well, everything but the fruit and veggies (But, who would waste time negotiating the price of a pumpkin, anyway?!) As an example, my daughter fancied a magnificent old tight-woven poncho. Initial asking price was 200 US dollars, the vendor taking my daughter and me for gullible gringo tourists. When my daughter started negotiating in better Spanish than his, the price was halved immediately ...then halved again. Final price $40!
The market colors are so vibrant that they appear almost to be hallucinations. And the produce is so fresh it crackles!
The quaint town of Pisaq also is renowned for its Inca ruins (among the most beautiful along with those of Machu Pichu, Saqsaywaman, and Ollantaytambo). Pisaq is definitely worth a detour. |

Hi Michael,
Very colourful and fantastic view. Interesting composition and POV.
TFS......Filiz
Hi there another wonderful shot, your story happens a lot here in Lima, people here take me as a gringa and try to charge me more than the usual, but if you don`t bargain it is not fun to buy lol. Do you live in Peru?
Tyanne
Hi Michael
This is an impressive array of colours and patterns. Nice POV through the stalls, very authentic and appealing.
I also commend you on your very interesting note. I hope one day to travel to South America and do some touring. Your experience of the significant price reduction is likely one shared by many on their excursions. I had one noteable experience very similar to yours in another country when I too bartered in the local language with good effect. :-)
TFS. Excellent posting and note.
regards,
Martyn
