[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This image was taken on a flight above the lines at Nazca. The humming bird is my favourite geoglyph, needless to mention it's the best seen from above as it is not littered with other lines. Some general information about Nazca lines can be found all over the net - a piece is presented below.

PP work: increased saturation by 15 and contrast by 10, adjusted levels; cropped, resized, sharpened.

The Nazca lines are a series of geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert, a high arid plateau that stretches 53 miles or more than 80 kilometers between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana in Peru. They are believed to have been created by the Nazca culture between 200 BC and AD 700. There are hundreds of individual figures, ranging in complexity from simple lines to stylised forms.

There are several hundred simple lines and geometric patterns on the Nazca plateau, as well as over seventy curvilinear animal, insect, and human figures. The area encompassing the lines is nearly 500 square kilometers, and the largest figures can be nearly 270 meters long. The lines persist due to the extremely dry, windless, and constant climate of the Nazca region. The Nazca desert is one of the driest on Earth and maintains a temperature around 25°C (77°F) all year round, and the lack of wind has helped keep the lines uncovered to the present day.

The Nazca plateau has been nicknamed the parking lot for spaceships ;)

Hi Barbara:
When I saw the thumbnail I expected to see a tiny little hummingbird in the corner of the pic somewhere, But when I opened it up it was a birds eye view of an abstract hummingbird done in the floor of the desert... Well done with just one colour here, rare to find something like this on TL... I like the crispness of the photo ..... excellent note to go with it... Thanks Roman:0)
