Caribbean Colours…

Between 1992 and 1999 I visited the Caribbean on regular basis and also Venezuela was on my route. Mostly I saw airports and hotels and that’s no really impressive to show you here on TL. So while I was digging in my photo archive (shoebox) I found this one. The fisher boat ‘parked’ on the beach of Puerto La Cruz a town near Barcelona.

Barcelona? Yes Barcelona. Venezuela has a large town with the same name as the city in Spain with the famous soccer club. My company Martinair flew two times a week on that particular destination. So it could happen that there were passengers on board who were wondering why it took so long before landing on Barcelona. ‘Normally’ it would take only about two hours from Amsterdam and you know, they were already flying more than three hours. The purser told then those bright lights that they have to fly another seven hours at least. And I can assure that in the first couple of flights with direction Barcelona in Venezuela this more often happen than you can imagine! An other funny thing was that one of the reactions was “Oh, and what about my Spanish Peseta’s? Answer: change (again)for Bolivars and take the loss.

Regarding the pictured boat; while I walked along the beach in Puerto La Cruz I saw this colourful boat with in the background the gardens of the people who lived on the edge of land and sea.

And yes I know it is not the sharpest picture here on TL even not by far the best, but it gives me nice memories of a good time. Hope you like it too!

Puerto la Cruz is a Venezuelan city and port, in the state of Anzoátegui. It's the capital of Juan Antonio Sotillo municipality. It's the second most important city of Anzoategui State after its capital which is Barcelona (Simon Bolivar municipality). It is bordered by Lecherías city and Guanta city The city is located on Pozuelos Bay It is on the Caribbean Sea and near Mochima National Park.Puerto La Cruz, Barcelonaform a big financial and economic center of eastern Venezuelan. This touristic city is also called the Door of Eastern Venezuelan. Puerto La Cruz is the home of an oil refinery which is one of the most important in the country. It refines 200,000 barrels per day, and supplies the domestic market as well as Caribbean countries such as Cuba and the Antilles. In the canals of Complejo Turístico El Morro, there are elegant neighborhoods with their own docks where yachts are parked. Being located in a bay with deep waters accelerated its process of becoming a port for international traffic in petroleum and a commerce port was established in the neighbour municipality of Guanta. Hallo Hans.
Mooie opname van een oude boot. Bij Aloys zie je de achterkant.
Zelf zou ik mij richting op het touw maar gelukkig jij niet.
Groet Frans

Aah Hans, it was a good shot to start off with full of interest, but then you did the post work on it... and I think you just made it better, it now has a very old world photo feeling, dreamy quality, full of sunlight and warmth, I think that the saturation increase really pulls that out for you, can't you just feel the sand between your toes already ;-)

Cheers

Steve
