Happy New Year to all !
Taken on a late and overcast afternoon ( an everyday occurence at this time of the year in the highlands ) , that explains the low shutter speed used 1/30 , iso 200 and f/4.5 settings , the lady was fixing a point somewhere on the street corner below . La Merced church in old Quito has a bell tower that apparently ,well so goes the legend , was possessed by the devil , only one man was strong enough to resist the devil a black bell-ringer named Ceferino and no one has dared enter the tower since he died in 1810! This is the little story behind the tower this indigenous woman stands in front of ! For the record, Ecuador's indigenous population is roughly 25% and the majority of those are Quichua and speak Quichua as their first language another 65% is mestizo ( people of mixed indigenous and European descent ), About 4 % is Afro-Ecuadorian , 6% is of pure European descent and last, a small but growing number of people are of Asian descent.

Hi Carol, I really like shots like this of the native people from around the world. Very interesting to see this woman in her native dress. I might have composed it with the woman not quite so central in the shot, and maybe a little more of the interesting blue door in the shot. But still, I really like it.

Salut Carol,
Excellent portrait . La pose du modèle,les couleurs et l'architecture du bâtiment à l'arrière donne du caractère à cette photo . L'éclairage permet de ne pas voir d'ombre forte projetée tout en permettant de voir clairement les yeux de la dame malgré le rebords de son chapeau . Bel angle de prise de vue . Bonne année à toi .
