Or, How Luko Taught Me to Stop Worrying and Love My Wide Angle

This is the second straight shot I have uploaded here shot using my 28mm lens from up close. My model is Daniel, who is nowhere near as sad a young boy as what it appears here. Actually, he is one of the happiest little kids you could imagine. I like the distortion the wide angle has given me. I also like that due to how close I was when shooting this, the DOF starts at his mouth, but is finished by the middle of his cheeks. Once again, proof that you can get bokeh from a WA lens. Maybe I need to buy something wider?

LOL! Was he holding his breath during the picture? ;-) Because, I mean, that exactly the way he looks like! Interesting you used a DOF that doesn’t cover his whole face, something that creates an interesting effect… I also like the fact that we can see “you” reflected in his eyes :-)

Really sad looking kid this one, Darren. One of your students I presume. I like the use of wide angle here, but my only concern is with skin tones...somehow this kid looks as if his skin will peel off any moment now! Anyway, good shot, just the skin tone part needs to be solved.

Yes, I agree with Fil, give this kid some cold cream!
But may be you could get rid of that with some local photoshop blurring or dust removing filter, I remember I experimented that for Greg in TE and worked quite well (his problem was skin imperfections on a model without blurring the eyes)...

On the positive side I really like how it falls from extra sharp to extra smoothed on his hair. It reminds me packshots taken with large format cameras.

I don't think you could go wider, fortunately your 28mm opens at f/1.8, a wider lens with such bokeh would mean 24mm at f/1.4.
If something like that is on sale (not sure this has been produced, it would be an optical monster...) this would cost you both arms and both legs, how you then manage to shoot?

I like he tiny lips and chubby cheeks! adorable!
