[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This part of the interior of the chapel that was built around 1683 in Chapel's woods looked very retro to me, so this is my entry for the scavenger hunt in this category. Please look beyond any religious meaning, as I do. I chose this view for the "old" style of the objects...

In the bottom centre you can see part of the statuette that people come to worship here - I'll put a full view in a ws.
Light comes from two small windows on either side. I used no flash, the glow on the angels and the statuette comes from the window on the right. Behind the window on the left are some trees that took away most of the light there. As the chapel interior is well-protected with a fine-mazed screen, I had to shoot this through a narrow cleft. Put the lens as close to the screen as possible, selected 1600 ISO and hoped for the best ;o).

The outside of this chapel is well cared for, the interior however is neglected a bit. Did you notice the stains of mould ?


Tech talk

Croppity-crop as "directed" by the edges of the cleft.

Downsized for TL : 72 dpi » 1200 dpi, 3233 pixels height » 800 pixels.

Applied USM 18, 40, 0; USM 150%, 0.3, 0.

Boosted saturation to 120.

Added a soft edge frame of 15 pixels to hide most of the blur caused by the edges of the cleft I shot through.


I re-wrote my intro late in December. Feel free to read it if you have some time. One thing I'd like to repeat here is my opinion about the point system; please leave me a critique if you want, but there's no need to add points. As far as I'm concerned, spend your daily amount of rated critiques on newbies or on members that really care for points. I don't... I care about useful critiques ;o).

Hi Frank,

I'm not sure how to critique this, but, yep, it's nice. I think a vignette would be better then a vignette frame, but, hey, that's just an opinion, who gives a sh about nit pickin' anyway. LOL
I guess you bored. I have a bored posting, those buttons for scav hunt. ROFL.
Gosh that's loud, turn down the noise will ya, I can hear you all the way across the pond. LOL

Unusual photo you composed, apart from the Religious aspect. You managed to capture the figures & objects quite well under the difficult lighting & conditions. The figures reflect that old weathered look.

I seems to me you couldn't make up your mind for the compo here Frank..I would have chosen to crop the lower side here because it is not in focus and kept the upper side with the angels..for 1600 iso still very good quality though !!

Hi Frank,
this is a wonderful idea for the hunt.
Very impressive shot, I also love to look at old churches, such pretty work from old days. In the South of Germany / Bavaria we have a lot of works from Nuns with perls, gold, stitchery ... we call it "Klosterarbeit", that also would have been a good idea for me for the hunt, I first had to see your post for having this idea - poor!

Hi Frank

I like the early baroque style of art here. Good use of tight framing & excellent color. I also like the figure 8, formed by the outside sculptures framing the central stylised cross.

Considering the conditions you had to shoot in Frank, this turned out pretty good.

Nice detail shot Frank. Exactly as I mentioned in my note to you on your recent critique of my Sunset photo. I notice you have an 18-200 mm lens, how do you find that? good? The focus at centre is very good, but a little off at the bottom. Anyway, at 1600 ISO it is pretty good.

Considering the conditions you did a grand job!
Plenty of fine detail and good colors. I have a slight suspicion that your camera has some dust particals and may need cleaning. Look at the grey area mainly near the Madonna.
