Ah, spring... the birds chirping, the sun shining, the sounds of trucks and jackhammers working on the flood wall...

People around here must be having flashbacks to 1997. We got some late snow this year, and last night I heard the first thunder cracks of spring. Today it rained for the first time this season, and tomorrow it will continue.

This dyke / flood wall project cost the taxpayers $400 million, and this year, the Red River is going to give it a once-over as it threatens to crawl up and over its banks in the coming weeks. Crews are working on the concrete walls 24 hours a day, and there are also excavating crews working throughout the night digging diversion channels away from town.

Consider this Part One of my new theme, which I am forcing on myself as part of an elaborate plan to escape the endless drudgery working two jobs and get out shooting again.

Spring Melt and Renewal. I can almost smell the barbecues of summer already :)
