Me and My Shadow

This is Caleb and he’s only 2 years and 4 months old
. I took him to the beach last week and as I went out of the house I said to him to wait for me while I went to get my camera. And when I came back, here he was with his camera all ready for the beach. This one lives in our toy cupboard.

Everything I did, my little shadow copied me. If I knelt down to take a photo, he knelt down and took a photo too. If I started shooting the birds, he did too. He was so funny to watch.

Well, I sat down on this rock and took a few photos of the gulls, and when I got up, he sat down on the rock too and followed my shots as well. So I had to quickly catch him in action. . .

I thought you might like to see my little man; I’m teaching him young. I have a little photo album of the photos I’ve taken of him and the places we’ve been together, and he loves looking at it. I also have one of these photos in the album. . . he thinks he is so clever.

It is wonderful seeing how he has picked up my habits!! Well, some of them . . .

There’s another photo in the Work Shop that you might like to see.

Thanks for sharing a neat time with your little man.

Sue

Your story was so nice to read and compliments the photo very well. Very good candid shot of Caleb. You must be so proud of him. Taking after his Nanna, I think.

Hi Janice,
I think you've captured the curiosity as well as joy on this young man's face ! Very good lighting and background.

Wow, starting him in photography at this early age. I think it's the right thing to do.

Janice you are sooooooooooo lucky to have such an adorable shadow!! He is thrilled with the camera and having a great time, his big smiles says it all! You will have to put some film in there and get his photos on here!!!

Great colors and composition, but may I offer a suggestion, a tigher crop, center the photo on him, he deserves it! Lol!
Thanks so much for sharing Caleb with us!
Hugzzz,
Fran

Hi Janice,

Like grandmother like grandson... :))
It's good to see he picked up a very good habit from you. Very natural photo of Caleb, looks like he's enjoying himself.
Next month we can start him on TL. :))
Well done!

Hi Janice, this is a heart warming photo. When ever will we appear such super stars if not to this age group! They are the best fun.. keep encouraging him with his 'photography'. Mum (Patricia) has assited my children with their albums and they continue to enjoy taking and collecting photos. I wonder what he found fasinating this day? Warm thoughts, cheers, Karey.

I misread your note the first time, and I thought that you had left 2-year-old Caleb on the beach alone while you went back for your camera! Alarmed, I re-read the first part carefully, and was sooooo relieved to see that I was wrong! I knew Grandmother Janice wouldn't do something that careless! :)))

Anyway, now that my heart has stopped racing...this is such a wonderful capture of this smart little guy (love the one in the w/s too!), and I know he'll be looking at it in times to come - seeing his first inspirations, the gifts given to him by his grandmother.

Gayle :)

Cute kid :) I think he might pick up a great hoby if he persists, and he's got someone to teach him. Nice moment.

This is too cute!! What a cutie!! Such a great moment captured, I'm sure he will cherish the photo album for years to come. What a great thing! My daughter who is almost 2 has recently decided she wants to be behind the camera with me rather than in front of it, cute, yes, but also fustrating to a photographer!! I think the toy camera idea is one I will have to try!! Great shot! TFS!
Michelle

very cute photo of the young photographer Janice :)
wonderful moment you captured here, he looks so happy to be taking pictures of his shadow :)

Hi Janice,

Lovely capture. He is really cute and I like the way he is completely immersed into taking the photograph. He is really enjoying it. My only concern is that, you have cut the shadow. I guess, the shot would've more wonderful with full shadow. Otherwise, it is really an enjoyable one. TFS.

Kiran.

Really nice, natural photo Janice. You've captured a great expression on Caleb's face.

Janice, what a wonderful photo of this delightful young man! You can't take enough of them at this age. Keep encouraging him with his "photography"!
Good detail in shaded area of face.

Thank you for sharing.

A great photo with a wonderful warmth to it - but a nice touch to include a peek of Auckland's most famous view. The lighting is superb - very even levels, despite the fact that his face is in shadow. Just lovely!

I see he is following in your footsteps, starting early, a lovely shot so sweet.A grand natural photo as Dawn says.
Christine.

Hope you don't drink beer and smoke in front of him........kidding! He is an angel! Such a sweet warm photo! I miss seeing my 4 grandchildren!

I absolutely LOVE this photo Janice, such a precious memory saved for all time. The look on his face is so special. I loved the workshop photo also, but think this was the best of the two. I saw this earlier and thought I had left a critique, but it appears I did not, so sorry for the delay, something must have distracted me. I think the bright sunlight here is so nice, the shadows on his face are appealing also. A future "Trekkie" it appears! Well done and TFS!!
