[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This cactus (Opuntia Compressa) grows on seashore near one of the Sydney’s beaches.
It was too sunny when I was shooting it (even though it was early in the morning), but fortunately for me, a huge cloud covered the sun for a few minutes and helped me with the lighting.

Opuntia Compressa easily grown in dry, sandy or gravely, well-drained soils in full sun. May be grown in clay soils as long as drainage is good and soils do not remain wet. Shallow fibrous roots. Plants often spread in the wild to form colonies as pads break off and root nearby.

There was a time when this would be pronounced "bloomin cactus" with disdain. I don't ever recall seeing one in flower though, they can be quite attractive. Your photo has nice detail and is well composed. However, it does look a tad washed out. Maybe reducing brightness and increasing contrast may help.

Hi Alla, very clear and sharp picture, I'll try a ws, hope you don't mind.. tfs

Alaettin

ooops, after I have prepared the ws, realised you dont allow it :(

Oh this is very beautiful shot, I love nature myself and I find this cactus very nice, why don´t you try framing your beautiful shots?

Tyanne

Great composition, colours and lighting Alla. A blooming cactus...lovely.

Hi Alla,
Great timing, because the light for this shot is very soft and beautifuul. The composition and framing of the shot are perfect. Exposure looks to be spot on. Very beauiful colors across the entire tonal range. Nice sharp detail. Perfect DOF control.

Wonderful composition Alla with good natural colours and an excellent POV. You show yet another of the imported plants which have rapidly become a pest. The cactoblastis moth was imported in an attempt to eradicate them. When they became a pest in their own right a lovely toad which we know as the cane toad was imported to control the moth. We know what the cane toad is like now. TFS,
David

Hi Alla,
lovely shot, the POV is excellent. Vibrant colors and nice sharpness.

Hi, Alla. Nice dof and composition. The colors are unusual...I think I'd like to see more contrast to really make those colors pop! These types of flowers are typically very vivid.

Lovely capture!
Gayle :)

Great colors, very good lightness and also a very good contrast.
