[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A few years ago local Church leaders started encouraging young members in the Philippines to save for a mission by having them make bamboo banks. The banks proved extraordinarily popular, receiving newspaper write-ups even in the United States.

The original banks were simple lengths of bamboo with a slit sawn in them, but tourist shops in Vigan and elsewhere have started selling more elaborate versions. These have been stained and varnished and handles added. The shop owner tells me they have been selling well to both foreign and Filipino tourists, despite the very high price she has been charging for them (as much as P500 for a large one). I suspect the price will drop sharply as more vendors start carrying them.

Awesome detail Christopher. Very beautiful bamboo. It's a really cool composition and the shot itself is very interesting to look at.

Thanks a lot for sharing this, it's truly a really cool shot.

Cheers,
Phil

Hi Chris, Good to see this unusual and cheap to produce (thrifty) idea to encourage young ones to save. In Singapore the mail was delivered in similar tubes many years ago. Good clarity and colours. TFS. Murray.
