[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These buildings are located in the city center of 's Hertogenbosch. They are called the Armada and are part of the Palace Quarters (Paleizenkwartier). The designer of the building is Anthony McGuirk from the UK. 10 apartment blocks of 8 floors, totalling 225 housing units. The architecture is inspired on Light, Air, Water and Land.

The parking garage is located under the water in the foreground. The buildings have a south view. Excess warmth is stored for warming of the buildings in the winter. Each building has a wine cave for about 500 bottles.

I took this picture in the middle of the afternoon, we needed sunglasses to look at them! I am always surprised to see the architecture in the Netherlands, a neighbouring country and still so different.

Unfortunately some parts are overexposed in this photograph.

Any comments or critiques very welcome.

Marleen

Machtige plaat; nooit van gehoord Marleen; indrukwekkend gebracht. De naam is als een slagorde van schepen en zo lijkt het.

Hi Marleen
Great
Matchless
...and I like it.

Hi Marleen,
Great architecture that you well presented here. The overexposed parts here actually are not that bad and gave a more shiny look to the building. The dark sky exposes the subject better too.
TFS.,
Salvu.

in a thumbnail view it seemed that there's some filter applied to make the buildings look round. mistaken. :)
thank you for showing the world such interesting arhitecture.

Hi Marleen! wow this is so strange... I love the metallic effect of the water... very strange... how it is to live there when it's hot sun outside?:))

Hi Marleen
Your picture shows perfectly well why these buildings are called the armada : they're like armored ships with winding sails, really surprising.
Thanks for sharing
Dalia

I've passed this building and didn't have a camera with me! I love it, thanks Marleen for sharing.

Chris

Great architectural shot. The metallic look of the buildings contrasts well with the sky and with the darker building to the left. Over exposed areas give it a shiny, new feel. Only alteration I'd suggest would be to crop out the foreground at the bottom of the picture, leaving the water to lead up to the buildings - would really give a sense of not being rooted into the earth.
Thanks for sharing

Lightness and colors are great. I like the frame very much.

Bonjour,
Jolie architecture et belle photo. On pourrait presque la mettre verticalement.

Hi Marleen

I like the reflected silver shhen from the lighting. Wonderful sharpness, color, & repetition of the apartments. Tfs!

love the high-tech look and material here marleen :)
they look like they could be the future housing styles found on MARS :)
very cool photo

you did well to control the reflections from the shiny buildings

A neat photograph. The contrast between the structures and the sky is terrific. The shapes and forms of the buildings are good but as usual the glare it gives out makes the neighbors suffer. By your note these are energy efficient buildings.

A hightech design.I think it must be for rich people.

Nice compo, Marleen... and nice buildings as well. You captured the scenery very well, the shot gives a good impression of what we ourselves would see if we were there in the same lighting conditions. If you want to avoid - or rather, correct - the overexposure, you should try shooting in raw and taking some shots from the same PoV but with different exposure. Bracketing comes in quite handy. You could then use HDR techniques (see MrPedro's gallery) to create a perfectly exposed shot...
Anyway, I like it as it is. TFS.

Sinon à part cela t’as photo est superbe !
Bravo.

Steph.

hello Marleen,
great details captured. I think the overexposure you mention have to do with the buildings mettalic texture - which tend to be reflections really - so i don't think it's a problem IMO. If i may say though, what I feel is perhaps the wall (on the lower part of the photo) could have been cropped out - it's looking like another frame... i added a workshop just to illustrate this...
Best regards, Daniel

Hee Marleen dit is grensoverschrijdend werk
Misschien is de lucht nog wat blauwer te maken.
Maar zo is ie ook al heel mooi

Hello Marleen, very interesting architecture you shared here. It looks like a metalic building. The overexposure really worked good here. :) Vandana
