[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
“Young model” is the name of this photograph and it is a picture of my oldest daughter. She graciously agreed to pose for me. She has good self esteem and I tried to show it with this photograph. Staring at the camera with confidence was my objective. I read that staring at the camera is not usually permitted except under certain steps circumstances.
I was also thinking of a closer crop but I wasn’t sure?
Rules are also made to be broken!
This photograph was cropped, level adjusted, softened, framed and saved for the web.

Your daughter is a beauty Jim. You transmitted her confidence quite well...
You should try a whole session and show us more results!

About the rules:
The first rule is: you should be happy with the picture.
The second rule is: she should be happy with the picture.
Following the rules can be a way of inprovement, but do so in steps... try to apply them one by one! That way you will get better and better without getting disappointed too soon...

When you crop closer, it might in be neccesary to keep the picture interresting by accenting for example her beautiful eyes, or by working with the light to create depth.

This picture is, imo, well done...

Hello Jim
She is very good looking. I think with this kind of pose (she isn't looking at the lens) a closer crop would be it better. With that kind of pose (directly facing and this cropping) she should be looking more at you. The background is too close too, you don't have enough DOF. This could be fairly easy corrected in any PP software ;-)

Otherwise your portrait is excellent ;-)

Jim, a beautiful model, with beautiful eyes. Composition, and colour are all very good.
Well done.
Liz
