Interesting, i'm not used to seeing such photos, but i for one like the soft pastel textures used in the conversion. As an image, its great to look at and explore.
I guess this is what TL is for, but i wonder if there is an upper limit on what we should do? This doesn't resemble a photo anymore, so should that be the upper limit of acceptance?? It needs to be discussed/clarified.
Great 'shot' jack, glad you made it here even with a different user name!

Is it a painting, Jack? Pardon my naivette. With PS, any photograph can be made to appear like apainting. This one is a good one. Colors are standout and of course the effects.

Ah - the freedom of artistic impression. This effect works very well with teh stairs. It honestly makes it look like a painting. Definately something I would like to try when I have the right subject. Well done.

Very interesting effect, Jack. Does this still fall into "Johanson's blue period?" ;-) While it obviously doesn't resemble a photograph any more, it is obvious that you hade a well-composed shot to begin with before converting it into this painting. The stairs are used as a good lead into the scene, and the cliff makes a fine diagonal.

The original photo seems to be a good one, but in the final result there is too much filter and too little you, that just my opinion.

I have the same feeling than Torben but I couldn't put into word until I read his comment. That's exactly it to much filter and not enough you. I'm not a big fan of those so called "artistic filter". I can't see the challenge in just applying a filter to the whole picture that will turn it into a painting, drawing or a mosaic. But I do think those filter can be used more creatively.

Very instructive experience, and attractive result. But the original is as good, due to very well traced lines and perspective. Here, stairs are OK, but sky is not that convincing because too similar texture as the rest of the image. At first look, I tought the stairs were coming out a hole in a blue wall. Well, it's two different pictures for me. I like both, and your work is very interesting

I honestly prefer the "painting" to the original because the personage in the background (the one behind the lady) has disapeared. I'd like to see more experiments, accompanied by the originals as workshop. Thanks for sharing this .

Jack, this is very good PP work, and the kind I like, which I suppose is a bit conservative, turning photos into something resembling paintings. I am not saying this to flatter you, but when I opened the thumbnail my first reaction was: Edvard Munch! Could it be the Norwegian expressionist tradition?

Feels like a book cover, for a novel.
