[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
For about a month, every weekend I would get up at 5:30am and peer out of the window - hoping for that rare combination of fog and frost.

This particular Saturday it happened, and I rang Diana - telling her to get "dressed" and meet me at the park (Rutherford Reserve - see 'map.')

The window of opportunity was small, the fog began to lift even as we were setting up to shoot, but in the short time we had I was able to get the shots I had been hoping for.

Taken with frozen fingers on a zero-degree morning.

Check out the LP version, although it reveals the (severe) limitations of the Lumix - at just 5.1 megapixels it's not especially sharp, and quite noisy.

Hi Rew,
For my taste i would like to bring out her dress contrast. But not so sure about it though cus this way she was perfect with the hazy morning. The foggy of course make the atmosphere like in no where. Great expossure imo.

Hi Rew,

Well worth the effort and the frozen fingers, I would say!
I'm curious to know how Diana reacts to being pulled out of bed at 5:30 in the morning!

The fog effect is fantastic and the tones of brown and green on the trees are brilliant. Nicely composed and smartly framed. Great shot.
I admire your spirit.
:)
thanks,

Simon

Great shot! The mist is still evident. The composition is good also.

Were you able to take pictures with other poses or at a nearer distance to the subject? If yes, I would love to see them here also. :)

Best Regards,

Pierre

Hi Rew,

I like what you did here only I think I would have placed the model a bit more off center, a bit more to the right so that you get more symetry.
Other than that I like the idea and the coloring of this shot.
Good job!

Greetzzz,
Anna

Hi Rew,
You didn't wake up early in vain! You succeeded very well in your combination. It'a a beautiful picture.
Mary

When you have posted this shot, I have written a comment and your photo disappeared! don't know what happened, may be you were trying to upload the large version...

Very creative shot and a very fine work, I would have liked to see the model closer to the right (nothing to do with 1/3 rule) and not to have her lined-up with tree branches at the bg.. nevertheless a nice shot Rew..

Alaettin

The large version refuses to come to life but I like this one anyway. Which park? I hope you had a good supply of foot warmers for Dianas feet, you deserve to freeze you mean thing. Ah well healthy handful of insanity helps no end doesnt it. Nicely done
Diane

tito rew,
nakupo, white lady! :P
im having difficulty viewing the large photo (dunno why) but from this small view, i like the cold scene. i agree with others in placing diana a little on the right. mind if i play a little mysterious in this beau? lemme know and i'll post it for you. kudos to you both. :)
jeff

Very nice concept, Rew, and certainly, a well thought picture! The extra wide format works fine, although another option would be to crop the right side to about the middle distance between the two lonely trees. Just a matter of perception, I guess. Anyhow, beautiful light, well captured!

PS: I have to say I don't fell sorry for your frozen fingers. How about your model!!! :)

ohhh..when i first glance at it..i thought a white lady (with the feet floating). great idea. and congrats, you made a nice work.

Like to dream, stop the time. Its not day or night, in the middle of the border.
Great compo Rew!

ilhan

This is great, Rew - a super image to stick on your wall somewhere.

I find it hard to explain what I like so much. The whole image just blends together very well - no stark contrasts, nothing too fancy or clever - just a well constructed, well thought-out and well executed photograph.

Super job.

All in all a great idea, the mist and the white dress works very well. great lighting.
It now put an idea of the lady and the lake in my head.

I agree with the model placement as well, but overall it's a nice shot Rew. I liked Jeff's treatment on it as well.

Poor Diane, it must have been ffffrrrreeeezing for her!! I like the panoramic view, and the fog looks good!
With the BG I think I would have liked to have seen her in a softer colour and not that stark white. (Just my thoughts) Next time you wake up and see the fog, look for another colour Rew!!
TFS, Janice

long waiting...Great result Rew!!!

Really compliment. It is really an ethereal image.
These pastel colour are perfect.

Claudio

Great shot, I love the way you created the "dream-walker" effect with the fog lifting, as you say it would look just great in a big frame on a wall somewhere. Perhaps adding a little red into the highlights would make it just the little more dreamy!

Good effort, pays off in the end.

this is good, very :)

Hi Rew

I love this. Very artistic work. Well done to Diana, but a model has to deal with so much for the 'right shot'. Congrats!

I might late to see this but my point's will not. I amazed you did well.
Good Job menh..

Is your model paid already for her actions?
hehe thakns for sharing.

Regards,
Ed

this is really good. they've said enough already. If your finger were freezing. I can just imagine about the model at this outfit.

Peace

wow, what a wonderful & "moody" shot, rew! :-)
well composed with the pretty woman in white posing (& freezing?) in the morning-mist.
she must be very interested in posing and photography
to get up at 5:30 and go outside in the cold.
well done & take care, thor.
too bad about the LPversion - what error-message do you get?

Wonderfully atmospheric shot, both literally and figuratively. I don't think I can add anything which others haven't already said - super picture.
Thanks for sharing
Mark

Hi Rew,
A very nice shot indeed. Only comment I have I would put the model more in the centre of the picture but that’s only my taste. Nevertheless it's a well worthy photo. TFS.
Hans

Hi Rew,

Hi Rew,

Maybe more crop on the right would make it even more impressive but the photo is great anyway.
Superb image.

Hi Rew,

I like the picture, the depth in relationship
the person is good, that whole fog behind
creates a magic atmosphere, small details
of the trees molding the scenery. The effect of the
fog is fantastic.
Congratulations for you and Diana.

Hello Rew... Excellent shot.. I think everything is Perfect..its one of those photos that you can look at for some time... well done to both of you.

Cheers
Dawn.

Now this is more like it! the space really enhances the mood I think. (that said I like the pose in the other shot better--to fit the freaky folktale I heard in my youth!)

Very good work, Rew. Brrrrrrrrrr.
Wonder how it looks cutting some off from the right?
Jan

loving this series looks like your works really breaking out from the more studio based images I've seen of yours in the past. Well done

Hi Rew,

Loads of portraits and studio work - or at least posed portraits and not the lucky ones on the street - in your portfolio! I have to say I am more a fan of landscapes and city environments, but that's just me. But for that reason I like this shot. It is very difficult as well to capture fog or mist. That morning glow over the grass.
Very brave to get out there at 0 degrees in your peignoir as well. :-)
Looking at the position she had choosen, I might have put her at 1/3 of the left or a bit to the right. Right now, there's a tree growing from her head. Very softly though, but still visible. Yeah, those are things I also only see once I uploaded the shots to the computer... ;-)

Greetings! Dennis

Wauw!!!!!
I bet this took so much ""early morning hassle/hurry""from you and your model to get this fixed!
Compliments Rew.
Myself Ive done many early expirments as well, and I know it s the best to organise your stuff the evening before,so you can leave early and quickly as possible without waking up my wife and daughter, because hobbyfreaking Daddy is looking for his glasses, socks or god knows what........
jan

Hi rew,
