[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I just lost my notes and have to start again, grrr. This is a Sand Goanna, fright material as I called it when I had hung the washing up and reached down for the basket and this 5 foot thing is lying arms length away. When I can down off the clothes line and got the camera and some nerves I sneeked up and took some photos. Big hero, darn thing was dead. I still dont like the darn things. The photo had gone many shades of yellow over the years so I have had to fiddle quite a bit. Sorry about his tail but the phot of the whole critter is a long way off as it was an old camera.

Woah! I would have been scared too. That is one ugly beast.
Picture gives the impression of too much sun on a very hot day.
Well done.

Yikes! You guys have these things crawling around your homes??? I guess it's no worse than the 7ft rattlesnakes in West Texas...B-)
Great catch!

Only 5 feet? Wait until you set eyes on a longer one :). I have fond memories of my Grandfather (all 6'6" of him)standing in one of his paddocks with a 6' racehorse goanna sitting on his head. When they are disturbed they aim for the nearest tall object. this one seems very like the racehorse and yes they can be a bit scary. Well done for an older camera Diane.

Many thanks for your comment on

Nice pic, Diane. Did you try scanning the picture into the computer? I've taken old photos that were almost gone and it fixed them up good as new (or better.) Maybe I'll post one this week and you can see what happened. The computer seems to know what to do to fix it.
