Happy New Year to everyone on TL.

As it is so dreary here in the UK at the moment, I thought I would go through my files and find a shot that I could post that is full of colour. I came up with this landscape from the North Island of New Zealand, at Huka Falls, which must be one of the most visited tourist spots in Kiwiland! Ironically, this was shot at the height of the Kiwi winter, and as the Kiwi TL members will be the first to see in the New Year, I thought i'd get in early with this post!!!!!Ha Ha!

So, the famous Huka Falls, where the whole outflow from one of the major New Zealand lakes, squeezes through a narrow channel and over a sharp fall. The result is what you see. I havn't touched the colour, the water is that magnificent shade of blue. You can get some idea of scale as there are some people standing on the left of the falls.
The lake from which the water outflows is Lake Taupo, which is some 608skms (235sq.miles)in area, making it the largest of the kiwi lakes. The river flowing over the falls is the Waikato river, and is an impressive sight. Enough water to fill 2 full size olympic swimming pools flows over the falls every second.
Hope you like the view.

kia hari te tau hou (Moari - Happy New Year!!!)

Take care,

John

A very Happy New Year to you too.

Hello John,

very nice look to the Hoka Falls from this position. I have only photos from the site where the tourists are going normally.

Hope the weather becomes better in New Zealand. In 3 days we start again a trip to the beautiful islands + Stewart Island.

Best wishes for the New Year 2007
Martin
