I am still working through winter of 2006 so here is another view of the Yacht Basin at Home Point on the Tamar Estuary. Instead of notes about Launceston some notes about the early history of the island.

Tasmania - Rich in Bloody Convict History

Tasmania is full of rich and interesting history. You don't have to be a true history buff to be really drawn into what life must have been like back in the early 1800's. There is so much of the history and convict past that is left in tact that it is impossible to avoid contact with it during a visit to Tasmania. Tasmania, then known as Van Diemen’s Land, was established in 1803 as a British penal colony and over the next 50 years, 73,500 convicts were transported to the opposite side of the world for crimes ranging from minor misdemeanours to political activities. Life was harsh.

In the north, Launceston is Australia’s oldest provincial centre and contains some of the country’s best examples of Edwardian and Federation architecture. Established in 1806 and gazetted as a city in 1888, it offers relaxing walks along graceful Victorian streetscapes featuring colonial churches.

David, you have taken so many photos on the Tamar - they are all quite beautiful. Especially in this weather. Wonderful reflections and silver colours.

The history is sad - so many wasted lives and I often think of the familes left home in England... And no one can change it - it's history!!

TFS
Cheers
Janice

I have just gone cross eyed trying to find the waterline around all but one verticle image. I love the "Aussie Haze" well nowhere else has quite the same hue. Maybe the camera manufacturers could come up with a filter to produce 'the look' of our haze.
Thanks David for a magnificent shot.

Diane

Hi David,
I like your shot.
I performed a WS just to elevate the mood.
TFS.

Beautiful image has been taken from an excellent point of view. Haze on the horrizon is depicting atmospheric humidity. Reflection of light in the water is looking fabullous. Well done David.

Thanks for sharing this image.

Your boats are as usual charming. I can always admire them. It is hard however to agree with WS which he did drfatih.
How is your dog feeling? Demonstrate him now one more time. (translator)

Once again, you have succeeded in capturing that tranquil mood. I might have cropped out the tower and powerlines as I'm not sure they contribute to that tranquil mood. Still....a pleasure to view.

Hello dear David, this is superb, just like the others. I wish I could do seascapes like these.

Your water is so calm, and I like the soft mood here created by the pastel colours and the time of day. Also the bright colours here and there cheer up the mood.

What a lovely place to visit and to relax to.

great work! Take care, Yan :)

ps: thx you very much for your appreciation in "Glam Smile". I am very pleased that you like it :)

Hi David,

Alex

Hi David.

Another beautiful photo.
Great POV and excellent DOF.
The master of the reflection at his best.
TFS.
Best wishes,

Hi David,
Absolutely wonderful! Great clarity and pastel colors. The 2/3 water 1/3 sky works very nicely and the water reflections are the special touch. The surface is like a mirror, so smooth and tranquil. Great work!

Hey David,
I prefer this one to the others. The sharp boats, the reflection, the posts. Nice colours.

The background electric lines and post kinda kills the mood set by the foreground, however (IMHO). I personally would have used a little cropping to get rid of it.

Great POV! And TFS
