Morbid Curiosity

This is a skull that I found last weekend when I was out taking photos. From the shape and size I would guess it to be a large house cat or a bob cat. Since I am not aware of any bob cats in the area, we have had cougar sitings a time or two.
When I was growing up my family was into black powder muzzle loading rendezvous. It was a blast to me, I miss it. We stayed in our own tee pee and we had leathers as well as prairie dresses. Everything outside of our tee pee was designed to look pre 1850. Our beds were covered with firs and we cooked over an open camp fire, let me say Mom cooked over the camp fire. Both of my parents are quite artistic and both made wares for trade. Too much to get into here. We would camp for up to a week and a half at a time, sometimes only a long weekend.
The skull goes back to that time for me. I have found this cat skull, rat and coyote skulls on my photo drives as well as camping trips.
I hope you can appreciate the beauty of the skull, this was at one time part of a living being. I find them fascinating. I know.... pure tomboy attitude... This wasn't where I found the skull, it was not in a place that I could get a good shot so I placed it here on the rock ledge. I plan to take more shots of my new little friend....
PP Slight crop to emphasize the skull, a little sharpening to bring out as much detail of the skull as possible, small frame and resizing. |

Childhood memories are the best. Great picture of the cat skull. good details and clarity. TFS
Christan
Regarding to the left pieces of furr on top of the skull it could be a cougar. But hard to say without having other dimensions to compare. A cat anyway...
Hi Dayna,
very different from other photos of yours, but I like it. Reminds me of my anatomy lessons. Nicely done! TFS
All the best,
Ioana
"black powder muzzle loading"??????
Man, you really don't show your age. What's your secret :-)?
Very sharp and clear photo.
Well done
Pierre
PS: I know it still used in hunting these days. They even have different season for it besides rifles and bows and arrows.

It IS morbid. But that itself makes it rather fascinating, I guess.
Great stuff: I looked at this several times already: Morbid curiosity, I guess! Good detail and set off well against the texture and color of the rocks.
Cheers
Otto
Hi Deyna.
Interesting shot, is that a bullet hole on the forehead?
