[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My friend Jessica is an accomplished cellist with the sweetest personality of almost anyone I know. We decided it would be fun to play around and use her cello as a prop for some photos.

Still was using my Canon A2E but instead of my usual 100mm lens I switched out to my 28-105 for greater depth of field.

Some cello facts:

The cello is larger than the violin or the viola but smaller than the double bass. Like the other members of the violin family, the cello has four strings. Its strings are normally tuned to the pitches (from high to low) A, D, G, and C (A3, D3, G2, and C2 in scientific pitch notation). The strings are tuned one octave lower than the viola, and one octave plus one fifth lower than the violin (see Tuning and range). The cello is played in an upright position, held by the knees of a seated musician, resting on a spike called the endpin. The player draws the bow horizontally across the strings, making them vibrate. The cello is a complex instrument consisting of many different parts. Although the majority of it is composed of wood, some parts can be made of steel or other metals and/or composite material. Modern strings have a steel, gut, nylon or other synthetic core, covered with various kinds of metal winding.

Hmm, rather surprised I'm the first to comment or critque this. Not a bad shot at all! I've noticed a little noise around the bridgeof her nose. I'm not sure what you could have done to avoid this, perhaps a slower shutter speed?

At any rate, its worth points, just for the fact that is basically crisp and clear and orignal. :)

Dear Sophia Butler Lakhouiri
interesting composition.you made a space to imagine her for viewer.it is important to impress anyone deep impact by one moment shot,if viewer had sufficient imgination.
and strange to say, the reflection of her on the cello looks like a her bone...
thank you
P.S. points are nonsence, and there are no respectable critiques in TL...I think

Great portrait - very creative composition. Nice sharpness and choice of B&W.

The first thing i have to say as i take a fast look at your gallery is Congratulation! Doing portrait is not so hard... Doing alive persons on our photos... Not the same easy!
I like that smile behind the instrument!
There is a good relation between the photograph and the model. We can see it immediately! I enjoy the crop here ! Music for the eyes we can say :)
