The Tower of Freedom...
The Tower of Freedom was built in 1989 in Paris in the Jardin des Tuileries with two others towers : the Equality and Fraternity.
This Tower was to exist only a few months to commemorate the bicentenary of the French revolution. The Tower of Freedom, just like his two sisters, is the work of Nicolas Normier and Jean Marie Hennin, who imagined steel towers, cables and fabrics symbolizing the fundamental principles of the democracy.
The following year, in 1990, the town of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges decided to buy the Tower of Freedom for 1 Franc (0,15 $) symbolic. It then was dismounted, then rebuilt in the heart of the city, in the Park Jean Mansuy and inaugurated on July 14 1990 feastday Nationale.
One of his sister would have left in a city of the United States of America... I could not check this information, in any event for the moment, it had to be dismounted and remelted for the industry of war (I'm joking;)). |
