[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Lions usually spend 16 to 20 hours a day sleeping and resting, devoting the remaining hours to hunting, courting or protecting their territory.

This one, I photographed at Parc Safari, in Hemmingford, was obviously less concerned with the search for food, so he had even more time to rest.
When I saw him preparing to take a nap, I remembered the many times I laid down in the grass, closed my eyes and dreamed of freedom (from all physical, social and psychological constraints)... it always brought a smile to my face.
In his own way, perhaps this lion was having the same kind of dream (...at least one of a world without fences)

Hi Anton
I love the way you've presented this, the "best 3" laid side by side. In keeping with your allusion to dreams of freedom, the images aren't separated by frames. Nice touch.
Sharp and well metered. Good POV.
Nice work!

Hello Anton,
What a nice sequence this is. Big cats are very lazy indeed. I love those poses you captured with excellent details, exposure and POV. This is a very nice and funny post :) Thanks,
Claudine

Ahhh what a lazy bum! The lionesses go and do all the hunting while he gets to eat his first share and then the hunters get the leftovers (pfsh!), well at least this one has the excuse of being in a zoo. This shot made me chuckle. I loved being a little kid and just sprawling around on the grass, absorbing the sunshine (I guess I do not do that enough anymore). Those rich colors and the POV really do give the feel of a bright, joyous dream. Nice that you put the one of him yawning in the middle to show his progress in, um, preparing himself for a nap. Good point by Rew about the lack of frames around each photo, nice transitions and good exposure. Good simple black frame too. I wish I could go frolick in a sunny green field now! ::sigh::

Excellent work and nice use of the large format, Anton. Expertly merged together, quite an unusual post of a lion.
Beautiful! TFS
