You Can’t Beat Wellington on a Good Day

Wellington is the Capital of New Zealand.

Wellington is well known for being a windy city. It is right on the southern tip of the North Island of New Zealand, and when the wind funnels through Cook Strait, the body of water between the North and South Islands, it blows right into Wellington harbour and knocks everyone off their feet.

I've been to Wellington many time times and seen it in many of its moods. Once we stayed there for a week were when my son was yachting in a P-Class yacht sailing contest. The wind was so strong the rain was falling sideways. The waves were being whipped up in the bay with a vengeance.

But this week my husband and I travelled down to Wellington for a few days holiday with friends. We went by train both ways, on the OVERLANDER, and we had a wonderful time. Wewllington is about 650

Tuesday it happened to be Wellington’s hottest day of the year – officially 27C. It was so hot, sunny and bright and I took this picture of Wellington Harbour from the wharf by Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum. It was taken just before 10am, and the harbour looked so good shining in the sun.

Wellington, NZ - 174.7833 / -41.3000
Auckland, NZ - 174.7667 / -36.8667

By road it is 657kms from Auckland to Wellington. And the train covers 680kms, and takes 12 hours.

Hey there, I have posted straight after you! Nice shot Janice, I can taste that 'colour blue', so still, so sparkly. I like your line behind the paddler and the haze across the bay. How is your kiwiana shot coming along. I don't think I'll have one, however I have an entry. Cheers, Karey

Nice shot, Good pov, good sharpness, nice colours and good depth. Well done TC
Rob

Hi Janice,
A fine tranquil shot of this bay in an almost monochrome style. The whole pictures breaths the heat of the day. Well captured my ear Janice. A very interesting and informative note too! TFS!

Hello Janice,
I like the use of the sunlight here creating this very nice peaceful and relaxing mood. The kayak is bringing some life and I like the line behind it.
Greetings.

Hi Janice - glad you enjoyed your stay in our Windy City! The traffic's a bit better than up your way isn't it?!

Such an uncharacteristic shot of Wellington, calm and flat! (just kidding)... in fact the number of wind-free days per year here is slightly higher than Auckland, but when it blows, it REALLY blows...

Anyway this is supposed to be a critique of your photo... Great subject, I like the panoramic crop. It looks almost monochrome!

Hi Janice,

I really like this panoramic photo! Beautiful blue hues you captured & the lighitng is great! Seems like a nice place to visit!

Well done & TFS

Oh...I really missed sunshine & good weather. Here we have still snow. I think spring doesn't want to come.
Beautiful shot with nice lighting, colors & mood. Well done.
