Jonathan Borofsky, Walking Man, 1995
Since it was erected in the late summer of 1995, WALKING MAN has become one of Munich's outstanding landmarks. The 17-metre sculpture of a man making a dynamic stride forwads was created by Jonathan Borofsky especially for the entrance to Munich Re's office building.
JONATHAN BOROFSKY, who was born in Boston (Massachusetts) in 1942 and today lives in Ogunquit (Maine), has taken part in numerous international exhibitions. The giant sculptures typical of his work are striking features of the urban landscape in many European cities. In Germany, people are familiar with his HAMMERING MAN of 1990/1991, situated by the Frankfurt Trade Fair Tower, MAN WALKING TO THE SKY in Kassel, commissioned between 1991 and 1992 for the documenta IX, the sculpture MALE/FEMALE from the year 1999, which stands in front of the offices of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Bielefeld, and MOLECULE MAN, set up in Berlin in 1999 at the initiative of Allianz.
