Offatts Bayou on Galveston Island

After the Great Storm of 1900 in which between 6,000 and 8,000 lives were lost it was decided that a seawall was needed to protect the Island from future Hurricanes. Houses were raised on stilts and sand was pumped under them effectively raising the incorporated part of the Island 17 feet (5m). The sand and sludge came from dredging efforts which formed Offatts Bayou near the center of the Island on the bayside. It is a great place for sailing and home to an abundance of marine life. More on the Seawall later.

Wow beautiful colours.

Hello Jim,
I'm not sure whether these colours are real or whether you have 'improved' them but whatever, they really work! I love the mood created by the pelican (is it?) sentinel, surveying his darkening realm. Well spotted!
Kind regards, Bev :-)

Nice color and silhouettes. I love the color of the light shining on the water.

Looked through your profile and I saw this..Pelican in shadow got some of the wind action. You did not overbore on the PP. Beautiful shot!
