Struggled to decide what category to put this in. In the end I opted for nocturnal even though it was shot at 14:55 on a bright, sunny day in Sydney. Well, it WAS shot in the Sydney Aquarium in a nocturnal tank lit by bright blue lights on one side and red on the other!

The elegant and graceful movements of these jellyfish as they glide and pulse and shimmer in the water is quite hypnotic to watch.

I had to shoot using ISO 1600 and 1/50th second exposure to get anything half decent and even then I needed to brighten up the image afterwards in Photoshop. Since the tank was black inside, it was quite hard to get a result without any harsh reflections from either myself or anyone standing beside me but I got a few, this being one of them. I used 'surface blur' on a minimal setting to get rid of any unwanted noise and then framed the result. I hope you like it!

Have a good day,

Rich

Hi Richard,

nice capture of these jellies (are they moon jellyfish ?)
You did well given the conditions in the note to get them.
I know from personal experience they aren't the easiest things to get a good shot of.
Well done and TFS
Kind regards
Colin

Well done Richard, technically handled very well, they create an almost alien abstract. Good PP work.

Beautiful image, I know it is not easy to photograph in an aquarium - have tried but the pics never came out good. The colors of these jellyfish are amazing. This really looks like coming from another world.

Hi Richard.

I really like this shot,it looks more like outer space than underwater.Mind you, jellyfish are very alien animals anyway,so that adds to the overall effect,as well as the iridescent blue light.Very cool.

Enjoy TL,Aqueous.

Very interesting and attractive picture! Beautiful designs captured, great notes...I was thinking that it was some kind of cigars smoking...quite far from the truth...fire and water are quite on the opposite sides! I like this picture very much! TFS!
