Impressive capture, this is quite the lightning bolt. The tree line below and the cloud cover above add a lot to the image, and the exposure is very good indeed. It probably took a lot of tries (and luck) but it was worth it.

Hi Jan,

That is huge bolt. The largest I've every seen.. You captured it really well. Very sharp and clear. Yes it did strike a pole with a transformer on it. They have copper wire inside, and when they're hit they burn green. Awesome!

Great shot, I can just imagine how scary it might have been at that time.

Never seen such a "thick" lightning. The clouds seem very low.

This one deserves to be my no. 1 in my lightning theme.

This is definitely a WOW image! The bolt of lightning is amazing. I think it's great how you handled the light here. I have several lightening photos in my gallery and I think this one is better than any of mine!
I also agree with your decision to pack up your gear and go home. There becomes a time when photos are secondary and your life is in danger.
I have never left a lightning storm but I have been rained on and nearly struck by lightning. Thinking about it later it was not a good decision.
I LOVE the clouds here....obviously, the lightning bolt is great and you included some trees for scale. Nice work Jan....this is one to be proud of!
